Legendary United midfielder Keane, who is now a football pundit for Sky Sports, criticized the Red Devils following their lackluster 1-1 draw against Enzo Maresca’s side. Keane was particularly unimpressed with a number of incidents during the match.

Keane was particularly angered by Martinez, insisting he was lucky to avoid a red card for a challenge on Palmer, while he also called out Diogo Dalot for a poor performance at Old Trafford.

Quizzed about the moment which could’ve seen Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team reduced to 10 players, Keane told : ‘He’s a lucky boy. Honestly.

‘He won’t be happy with Cole Palmer making a fool of him, it’s a great piece of skill. And it’s a nasty tackle.

‘He’s a lucky boy. He doesn’t catch him properly, it’s down the side of his leg. But if he got sent off I’d say no complaints.’

Fellow pundit and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard added: ‘I would say it’s a red card for intention. He does get proper contact on him. He knew he was late and said I’d leave a bit on you.’

Meanwhile, in his assessment of Dalot’s wasteful performance, Keane said: ‘You have to get hold of these lads. Hit the target, these are big chances.

‘These are top quality players missing open goals. Dalot missed a chance last week and people keep telling me he’s a good player.

‘Put the ball in the back of net, keep your manager in the job for another couple of weeks at least.’

Speaking generally about how United performed, Keane added: ‘[Incoming permanent manager] Ruben Amorim should have signed a longer contract.

‘There’s a long way back for this team. This is an average United team, all the stats back it up.

‘We are repeating ourselves, we don’t know what we are going to get from them – it’s hit and miss. This United team, boring, might be a bit strong.

‘At the end it was a bit more open, but really disappointed – it was so flat. From the managers point of view, this team is way off it.

‘A really disappointing performance. United are a bit average at everything and they are not special. The lack of goals is hard to believe.

‘When you look at United, they play for moments. That’s nowhere near good enough for a United team.’
