New Delhi: Jemimah Rodrigues lauded team owner Shah Rukh Khan following Trinbago Knight Riders’ exciting win against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Sunday.
The match culminated in a nail-biting Super Over, with the Knight Riders emerging victorious. After the win, TKR’s social media shared a video featuring Jemimah Rodrigues and Jess Jonassen celebrating by dancing to the iconic ‘Lungi Dance’ from the 2013 movie Chennai Express. The 23-year-old Jemimah commented on the post and wrote, “How could we have not paid our tribute to our owner.”
Jemimah Rodrigues has struggled in the tournament, managing just 44 runs at an average of 14.67 and a strike rate of 107.31, with her highest score being 26. Despite her individual form, Trinbago Knight Riders kept their hopes alive for a spot in the final. In the match against Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jemimah was dismissed for two runs off six balls by Karishma Ramharack.
Batting first, Trinbago Knight Riders posted 128 for eight, with captain Deandra Dottin leading the way with a quickfire 53 off 38 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. Shabnim Ismail, Erin Burns, and Karishma Ramharack were the standout bowlers for Guyana Amazon Warriors, each claiming two wickets.
Erin Burns contributed a solid 61 off 50 balls, hitting six boundaries, but her efforts only managed to push the match into a Super Over. In the one-over eliminator, Deandra Dottin and Jemimah Rodrigues combined to help Trinbago Knight Riders score 19 runs, which Jess Jonassen comfortably defended to secure the win.
TKR now face defending champions Barbados Royals in their final league match on Tuesday, August 27, in Tarouba. After finishing last in the previous edition, TKR are eager to turn things around and make it to the final this year.
