New Delhi: In celebration of 150 years of Test cricket history, Australia has announced plans to host a special one-off Test match against England at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2027. The very first Test match was played between Australia and England in 1877, with Australia emerging as the victors. This historic venue has witnessed many memorable matches, including the Centenary Test in 1977, which Australia also won. The decision to host this special Test match at the MCG was made after discussions between Cricket Australia and state governments, who have finalized a seven-year agreement for hosting regular Test matches at the stadium.

It was also decided that MCG will continue its tradition of hosting the annual Boxing Day Test. The New Year’s match will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground as usual. The Adelaide Oval has been allocated to host the ‘Christmas Test’ each December starting from the 2025-26 season.

The Perth Stadium got the rights to host the first men’s Test of the summer until the 2026-27 season. It is also being learnt that India and England have conformed tours in the four years post-2027. The current Future Tours Programme (FTP) is only inked until early 2027.
