New Delhi: Australia’s talented 19-year-old Sam Konstas impressed everyone with a magnificent century against the Indian team in Canberra on Sunday. Playing for the Australian PM XI, Konstas showed great composure as wickets kept falling at the other end, and continued to score runs consistently. His innings at Manuka Oval included 14 boundaries and a six. Despite a challenging start in the first 10 overs, Konstas formed a solid partnership with Jack Clayton, adding over 100 runs for the third wicket.

Even after Clayton was out, Konstas continued to shower his brilliant shots. He was out in the 38th over of the match after scoring 107 runs off 97 balls and at this time Australia’s score was 205 runs. Konstas was included in the team in place of David Warner before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but Australia chose Nathan McSweeney as an opening partner with Usman Khawaja in the first match of the series.

However, he has shown his quality to everyone ahead of the second Test in Adelaide. After his brilliant century, all eyes are now on the Australian selectors, who are certainly keeping an eye on this champion opener, especially when the Australian team is struggling with its opening pair.

Who is Sam Constas?
Born on 2 October 2005, right-handed Konstas is a popular batsman in the Australian cricket world. He has recently caught everyone’s attention with his excellent domestic cricket performance. He has played for both the Australian Under-19 team and New South Wales. 19-year-old Constas first came into the limelight after scoring a double-century against South Australia in the first match of Australia’s domestic tournament Sheffield Shield. Konstas got his first professional contract last year:
Konstas was included in Australia’s Under-19 team for the tour of England in July 2023. He made his first-class debut against Tasmania in November 2023.
